Performance Analysis and Optimization of a Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine with a High Tip-Speed Ratio

In this work, the aerodynamic performance and optimization of a vertical-axis wind turbine with high tip-speed ratio are theoretically studied on basis two-dimensional airfoil theory. By dividing rotating plane into upwind downwind areas, relationship among angle attack, azimuth, pitch angle, is derived using quasi-steady model, loads then obtained. applying polynomial approximation to functions lift drag coefficients attack for symmetric asymmetric airfoils, respectively, explicit expressions as The fixed-pitch blade by employing NACA0012 influences tip speed ratio, chord length, rotor radius, incoming rotational discussed. Furthermore, problem based dynamic-pitch method investigated considering maximum value instantaneous torque function angle. Dynamic-pitch laws airfoils derived.
